Stuart B. Mortensen, 70 of Rockford, died October 20, 2018. He was born March 19, 1948 in Battle Creek, the son of Bruce and Lillian Mortensen. Stuart graduated from Western Michigan University earning his Master’s Degree and Teaching Certificate.

He taught English in Rockford Public Schools for 32 years. He was the head of the yearbook and president of the teacher’s union for many years. Stuart enjoyed sailboat racing, photography and traveling.

He also enjoyed spending time outside working in his flower gardens. Surviving is his son Daniel (Lauren) Mortensen and granddaughters Cecily & Cosette all of Holland, stepson in-law John Williams and his children Chase and Sierra, brothers Gary (Sue) Mortensen of Central Lake, Mark (Dotti) Mortensen of Breedsville, sisters Cherri (Mike) Corning of Kalamazoo, Trudy (Dave) Sumner of Breedsville, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley, and step daughter Shelley Williams.

A visitation will take place Thursday, October 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at D.L. Miller Funeral Home in Bangor. Graveside services will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the Breedsville Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the NRA, 11250 Waples Will Rd, Fairfax, VA 22030 or the National Wildlife Federation 11100 Wildlife Center Dr., Reston, VA 20190.
