Kenneth Nelson Gates, 83, of West Columbia formerly of Binghamton, New York, passed away on November 10th, 2018 Mr. Gates was born in Binghamton, NY, March 3, 1935. He was the 2nd oldest of eleven siblings. Ken is survived by his wife Joyce Settlemyre Gates.

Daughter Tammy Gates Dadosky and son in law Andy of Louisiana. 3 Grandsons, Tyler Harmeyer and wife Tabitha of Houston, Texas, Brock Dadosky and wife Anna of Houston, Texas and Cole Dadosky of Charlotte, NC. Brothers Jerry Gates and wife Carol, Bobby Gates and Roger Gates.

Two precious great grandchildren Phoenix Dadosky and Brooklyn Harmeyer. He was predeceased by his parents Gerald and Grace Gates. Ken served in the United States Marine Core during the Korean war.

After his discharge he focused on his career in the steel industry until he retired in 2005. After retiring he focused on his hobbies which included woodworking and was a member of the Woodworkers of America. In his retirement he worked part-time at Mann Tool and taught turning on a lathe.

He cherished the time he spent with his family. A service to celebrate the life of our beloved husband, Father and Grandfather, will be held at Moseley’s Funeral & Cremation, 914 Meeting Street, West Columbia, SC at 1:00 PM on November 14, 2018. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Pruitt Hospice for the care and compassion for Ken during his last days.
