L. Richard “Dick” Barlow, 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Midvale, Utah, on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 following a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease and having led a rich wonderful life. Dick was born Easter Sunday, April 12, 1936 – the eldest child of Lloyd Jackson (deceased) and Nelda Barber Barlow (deceased). He is survived by his cherished and devoted wife of 25 years, Ruth Ann Heiner, his five children by prior marriage to Janice Holbrook: Debra (Roland), Kathy (Dennis), Brenda (Eugene), Joan, and Jason (Elizabeth), and step-children: Mark (Lori), Andrea (Aaron), Stephanie (Perry), and Jeff.

He is also survived by brothers David and Kent, sister Carolee (Donnie), 24 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren (with 2 on the way). Dick grew up in Bountiful, Utah, and later served his country honorably as a member of the United States Armed Forces. He held long and distinguished careers in both RV sales and insurance during his professional life.

He was an avid aviation enthusiast – a private pilot – having owned a twin Beech Bonanza and built numerous gas-powered model planes. He enjoyed motorcycles, downhill skiing, and racing snowmobiles as a young man. He would later develop a passion for nature, photography, and a great fondness of travel and the outdoors.

One of his favorite outdoor pastimes came in perfecting his golf swing – an activity he enjoyed well into his 70’s, especially in the company of his brothers. He was an active member of the HAM and short-wave radio community (N0DAS) for many years and was perpetually fascinated by emergent digital technologies and gadgets. But none of these were matched by his lifelong dedication to his beloved wife and family whom he loved and celebrated in every way until his final hours.

Dick was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served his Father in Heaven in many capacities throughout his life. He possessed a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served his church, his family, and his Savior with honor and distinction. He was the family patriarch and an example to all who knew and loved him.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, of family, and of the many warm memories shared by all whose lives were graced by his during his time here on Earth. His light is now lifted into heaven. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 2 at 12 Noon at the Midvale 7th Ward (8350 South Jackson Street, Midvale).

Visitation will be held at the church Friday evening, February 1 from 6-8 pm and Saturday morning from 11-11:45 am. Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery (2224 South 200 West, Bountiful). The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Community Nursing Services, The Cascades at Riverwalk and Intermountain Health Care.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a charitable donation to The Parkinson’s Foundation in Dick’s name (www. parkinson.org).
