Landa’s Obituary Landa Carol Taylor was born on August 12, 1947 in Scurry TX to William “Bill” and Christell Jones and passed away at home surrounded by her family on May 10, 2019 at the age of 71. Landa grew up in Scurry TX the oldest daughter of 7 children. She met the love of her life Ken while working as a checker at Best for Less grocery store .

Ken worked in the meat market and when Landa initiated a lunch with all the co-workers, Ken’s response was “When we go to lunch, it will just be me & you”. The two dated for a few years before bringing their families together . 2 daughters and 2 sons would complete their circle.

During these years Landa also began a career at Southwestern Bell . After raising their kids in Mesquite Texas, Landa and Ken returned to her roots of Scurry to be near Landa’s Mom and family. She retired from the phone company after 32 years and began working along side her son in his family business in 2000.

Landa loved to be near family always. Landa was well known for her service to others which have included Mt Olive Cemetery Association, Kaufman Childrens Welfare board , Mt Olive Baptist Church , Prospect Mountain Therapeutic Riding Center and as an Awana leader. Getting family together was important to Landa.

She made sure all were welcome. Family or friend her door was always open for hosting huge gatherings . Big Easter Egg hunts, family Christmas & 4th of Julys were a favorite.

Landa loved hummingbirds, angels , starbucks and sweet tea. She loved mexican food at LaPradera , Saturday morning breakfast at her brothers & Judge Judy . She loved perfectly folded towels , bird houses and road trips.

She loved gumballs, staying up late & seemed to always be running late . She loved her friends, her church and she loved Jesus. Even with all of this, Landa’s greatest love was her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandbabies.

Being the “Chaos Coordinator” of Cousins week during Vacation Bible School each year was a favorite tradition for her family. Those who preceded her in death are her parents Bill and Christell Jones, brother John Henry Jones and great grandson Ryland Schweder. Those left to cherish her memory are: husband Ken, sons: Morris Miller and wife Terry and Terry Taylor and wife Susan; daughters Tammie Selvidge and husband Patrick and Sheri Gonzales and husband Joe; brothers: Joe Jones, Paul Jones and wife Margie, David Jones and wife Cherie; sisters: Esther Maass and Dr. Lisa Jones; 10 grandchildren: Ryan and wife Cassi, Katie, Reese, Beau, Nash, Drake, Baron, Tiffany and husband Clay, Stephen and wife Robyn and Jeff and wife Candy; 7 great grandchildren: Cade, Cayleigh, Hunter, Garrett, Nathaniel, Josiah and Antonio; numerous extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
