Obituary for Mr. Larry Duvall Gillim Larry Duvall Gillim, 80, of Owensboro, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 1, 1938, in Hopkinsville, KY. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy; a graduate of Brescia College; retired from the U.S. Post Office as a mail carrier after 30 years; and was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Sherman Gillim, when Larry was 8 years old; his mother, Dorothy Duvall Gillim Spalding; and his step-father, John B. Spalding. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Sharon Bertke Gillim; his children, Bill (Lisa) Gillim, Julie (Tony) Ebelhar; Mike Gillim; Steve (Martha) Gillim, and Rob (Laura) Gillim, all of Owensboro; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Connie (Jim) Hayden and Sara (Joe) Wathen; and brother, Dan (Shirley) Spalding, all of Owensboro. The funeral mass for Mr. Gillim will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Martin Catholic Church, Rome, KY.

Visitation will be on Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with prayers being said at 1:30 p.m., at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory, and after 8:30 a.m. Monday at St. Martin Catholic Church. Burial will be private. Expressions of sympathy make take the form of contributions to the St. Joseph’s Peace Mission, 1328 W 3rd Street, Owensboro, KY 42301, or St. Martin Catholic Church Building Fund, 5856 State Route 81, Owensboro, KY 42301.
