The Rev. Dr. Larry Lee Miracle passed away October 19, 2018. Born at home September 9, 1938, in Cadiz, Ohio to Arthur Vernon and Blanche (Sandy) Miracle.
He is predeceased by his parents; brother, Alan Frank Miracle: twin sister, Linda Marie Ziccardi; and great-granddaughter, Amelia Rose Lukens. He is survived by son, George Alan Miracle; daughter, Maureen Renee (James) Crabtree; granddaughters, Amanda Jean (Jon) Lukens and Emily Grace Baker; step-grandson, Cory Michael Crabtree; and the mother of his children, Renee Miracle. Larry graduated from Dennison High School in 1956, from Phillips University, Enid, OK, in 1960 with his Bachelor of Arts Degree.
At Lexington Theological Seminary he earned his Masters of Divinity in 1963, and his Doctor of Ministry in 1981. He was ordained June 9, 1963 at Park Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Dennison, Ohio. Larry served at Moorefield Christian Church in Kentucky as a student pastor from 1960 – 1963.
He then went to Barnesville, OH, 1963- 67. At Clyde, Ohio, he served as pastor at the Clyde Christian Church (1967- 1980) and was an Interim Pastor to the First Presbyterian Church 1971- 1979. The family then moved to Marion, Ohio, at which Larry served as pastor from 1980 to 1984.
At this point he entered the hospice profession. As a pioneer, he helped start the hospice program at Marion General Hospital, and continued to the position of Vice President for Human Services at this hospital. He continued his hospice work at Rockford IL, and later as the Executive Director of the Madison County Home Health Hospice, in London, Ohio.
His last hospice position was as the director of the City of Columbus Board of Health Hospice. Larry expressed that his most valued work was that of Hospice Director. He was a member of Fourth Ave.
Christian Church, Columbus, Ohio; University Lodge F & A.M. #631; and Valley of Columbus Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite. Larry traveled to 34 countries, often with friends, and his grandchildren. He loved baseball, attending games at every Major League ball field.
He traveled to every state in the country and enjoyed cultural events. He was involved in politics and served in many local positions including school boards. Larry “went about doing good” in his life.
He gave of himself professionally and personally, touching many lives for the better. Memorial service will be held at Fourth Avenue Christian Church, Columbus, OH, November 3, at 1:00. Graveside service will be held at Gnadenhutten Cemetery November 10, at 1:00.
