Leon “Tim” Van Sant, age 59, passed away peacefully on May 18 surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 24, 1959, a son of Leon and Dorothy Van Sant. Tim attended Eastern Kentucky University, receiving his Masters Degree in Industrial Arts.

He went on to teach for the Orange County, Florida school system for 25 years until his retirement. He also taught at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Fl. Tim was a vital member of LVL1 Hackerspace.

He enjoyed sharing his passion of building things by teaching various workshops and helping others in the community. He is preceded in death by his father, Leon Irven Van Sant. Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Dorothy Van Sant; siblings Judy Marlowe, Barbara (Tom) Brian, Becky (Joe) Burke, John Van Sant; nephews Adam (Ihna) Marlowe, Andy (Lindsay) Brian, Eric (Audra) Brian, Joey Burke (Alexa Strong), Sean Van Sant (Kadee Kinberger); nieces Melody (Jeremy) Smith, Jennifer (Jon) Vert, Katie Burke, Carolyn Burke; and great-nieces and nephews TJ Harrell, Ava, Levi, Amelia, and Beau Brian, Kaitlyn and Emily Vert; and a multitude of friends.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00pm, May 22, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 8305 Nottingham Pkwy, Louisville, KY 40222. The family will receive visitors from 10:00-12:00pm at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
