Obituary for Leona Helen Curtis Leona Helen (Tillery) Curtis, affectionately called “Ma”, “Auntie Lee”, and “Granny” transitioned Sunday, October 28, 2018. Leona was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 14, 1943. In 1955, she moved to Gary, Indiana, where she graduated from Tolleston High School in 1961.

Leona was united in Holy Matrimony to William ”Billy” Curtis on July 7, 1963. To this union were born 4 wonderful children. She dedicated several years of great customer service at Jewel, The Store Inc. and Meijer.

Leona had an encouraging smile, a healing hug, a giving heart, and a fun personality that touched many lives. Leona is proceeding in death by her parents, John and Helen Tillery; brother, John Tillery Jr.; and sisters, Bonita Elaine Tillery and Bonita Ann Tillery-Powell. Leona leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband, William Curtis; children, Anthony Curtis, Gary In.

, Carmen Peterson, Columbus, Oh. , Reverend Keith (Sandy) Curtis, Irmo, SC. , and Kevin Curtis, Atlanta, Ga.

Special niece, Reverend Doctor Robin (Anthony) Wilson, Kansas City, MO. Grandchildren, Kellee Crawford, Ashlee (Lavon) Haynes, Keith Curtis II, Shelby Curtis, Destiny Curtis, and Kevin Curtis II. Great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Kamrynn, Kaleb, Lavon II, Aaron, Adina, Kamille, and Arielle.

3 sisters in law, Patricia Tillery, Beverly Tucker and Cathy Dunlap. A Special friend, Synda Swope, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation Friday, November 2, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Smith, Bizzell & Warner Funeral Home, 4209 Grant Street, Gary, IN; Funeral services Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Davis Memorial AME, 4137 West 21st Avenue, Gary, IN; interment Evergreen.
