Leonard A. Rogers, age 79 of Gardner, Kansas passed away at his home on November 13, 2018. Visitation will be 1-2:00 p.m. Monday, November 19, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Stilwell 19950 Broadmoor Lane Stilwell, KS with the funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Aubry Cemetery. On June 20, 1958 he married his high school sweetheart Gladys McComas and together they raised three children. After some time as a sheetrock hanger, he left that job to begin a business of his own. In 1968 he and Robert Miller went into the sod business together as Rogers-Miller, Incorporated.

They purchased 80 acres in Spring Hill and Leonard built a family home. The company prospered and after the retirement of Mr. Miller the business became known as Ridgeview Turf and Trees. Leonard generously gave his time to many and eagerly supported youth sports, a men’s softball team, and the Spring Hill school district as a member of the Board of Education.

After the death of his first wife Leonard married Sandra Thornbrugh in 1987. They continued to live in Spring Hill until 2005 at which time they relocated to a farm near Ottawa, Kansas. Leonard has been preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Gladys, son, Craig and brother, Mark.

Surviving are his wife, Sandy of the home, children Tracy Cook and Scott Rogers, stepchildren Mike Pitts, Shirley Cox, Russ Pitts and Randy Thornbrugh, sixteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Mariwilla Owsley of El Dorado, Kansas and brother, Wayne of Miami, Florida. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Olathe Hospice, 20920 West 151st Street, Suite 204, Olathe, Kansas 66061.
