Leonard’s Obituary A Time to Be Born Leonard Francis Drummond, Jr., affectionately called “Lennie,” was born in Salisbury, MD on February 10, 1957 to Harriet Drummond and the late Leonard F. Drummond, Sr He was the only boy of four children. A Time to Learn Lennie completed his formal education in the Worcester County Public School System.
He was a 1975 graduate of Stephen Decatur High School. While in high school, Lennie played football and still enjoyed playing his trumpet during his free time. He would particularly mention being a part of a three man band with a few of his buddies.
A Time to Work During his high school years, Lennie worked at the Angler Restaurant and English’s Family Restaurant in Ocean City, MD. In September of 1975, he enlisted in the United States Army, in which he served 10 years. While enlisted, he received several medals and ribbons.
A Time to Live In the late 90’s, Lennie moved to Tacoma, WA where he made his home. In September 2005, he obtained a federal job with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (T.S.A.). He was promoted to supervisor in July 2010.
Lennie took pride in his job and really felt an abundance of joy working with his fellow employees. He retired from T.S.A. in 2016. He not only was a great supervisor, but he was a mentor and kind friend.
Lennie loved spending time with family. He really enjoyed sitting around talking about the things that he used to do in his younger years of growing up. When his nieces and nephews were younger, he loved sitting with them, helping with their homework and teaching them proper table manners.
Throughout the years, he would always listen if they ever needed to talk and never hesitated to show his support or give advice. Family was everything to Lennie. He held a high regard of respect and love for his parents and sisters.
He just loved his family so much and enjoyed every opportunity he had traveling back to Maryland to visit, eat seafood and home-cooked meals, and attend family gatherings. During his last visit home, his cousins, Annette and Robin, gave him a surprise party which really melted his heart. He enjoyed eating some of his favorite foods and listening to some old school music.
Lennie had good friends, lifelong friends, and truly did cherish those friendships. Lennie loved dressing up. He would always take pride in his appearance.
He was very stern on respect and never had a problem expressing his feelings on any matter, rather right or wrong. If you really wanted to get him started, all you had to do was mention politics or his favorite football team, the Washington Redskins. A Time to Love Lennie was united in holy matrimony to Elvira Maglangit on December 12, 2012.
He cherished his wife. Lennie treated her like a queen, as he her king. A Time to Die Lennie went from labor to eternal rest peacefully at the Veteran Hospital in Seattle, WA on January 4, 2019.
Lennie spent his final days with the comfort from family and friends. He was a true fighter who did not complain. A Time to Mourn Loving memories will remain with: his wife, Elvira Drummond, Tacoma; his mother, Harriet Drummond, Berlin, MD; two sisters, Beverly Manuel, Berlin and Theresa Drummond, Salisbury; two nephews, Adrian Manuel, Berlin and Tyler Hunt, Salisbury; two nieces, Shytina Drummond, Berlin and Michelle Coston, Baltimore, MD; a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Lennie was preceded in death by his father, Leonard F. Drummond, Sr., a sister, Darlene Stevenson, two nephews, Forrest Manuel, Jr. and Tyran Drummond, and a great-niece, Aniya Manuel. Mr. Drummond will lie in repose on Sunday, January 13, 2019, from 11 AM to 12 PM at New Bethel United Methodist Church, 10203 Germantown Road, Berlin. The funeral service will begin at 12 PM.
Interment will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery, 10543 Assateague Road, Berlin.
