Obituary for Leonard Jesse Winston Leonard Jesse Winston was born October 23 1950 in Brooklyn New York to the late Walker Winston Sr. and Constance (Eady) Winston. He was the second of three children. He was educated in the New York city school system.

After high school, he joined the Air Force. He served two tours in Vietnam. He was stationed in Arizona at Luke Air Force, in England, UK at Mildenhall Air Force base, in Virginia at the Pentagon and in Biloxi Mississippi at Kessler Air Force base before moving to Tinker Air Force base in Oklahoma.

He retired with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant in 1990 after 22 years of dutiful service. After his discharge, he received his bachelors degree in the sciences from Langston University and his master’s degree in education from The University of Central Oklahoma. He began teaching biology and anatomy at Choctaw high school.

After 11 years at Choctaw High, Len taught anatomy first at Eastern Oklahoma County Technology Center, then at Metro Tech in Oklahoma, and finally Francis Tuttle Technology center. Due to his health in 2016, he retired from teaching after 20 years as a beloved and respected educator. Len accepted the Lord at an early age.

He was a faithful member at St. Paul UMC in Biloxi. Upon moving to Oklahoma, he joined Quayle UMC. At Quayle, he served in many capacities including being a member of United Methodist Men, a part of the Mass Choir, a part of the Administrative Council, and served on the treasury.

Len is survived by his three sons- Khalid, Hanif, and Lateef Winston; eleven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; two brothers- Walter Jr. and Douglass Winston; and a host of other relatives and friends. Len went home to be with the Lord on May 31st, 2018 at his home in Oklahoma City. He will be missed and fondly remembered by many family, friends, former students, and colleagues.
