Westfield-Leonard M. Melanson, 85, husband of Joanne (Ryan) Melanson died on February 26 2019 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. After graduation from Westfield High School in 1951, he served in the US Army’s 10th Mountain Division from 1953-1955. He graduated from Westfield State College, later earning a Master’s degree from Texas A&M University.

For thirty-five years he worked for the Springfield Public Schools. He was a long-time member of American Legion Post 124. Two of his greatest joys were fishing and attending Westfield HIgh School Bomber hockey games.

In addition to his wife, he leaves three children, Anne of Florence AL, Jack (Lisa) of Cape Elizabeth ME, and JIm (Linda) of Latham NY. He also leaves three grandchildren, Finn of Salt Lake City UT, Ned of Chestnut HIll MA, and Amelia of Dublin Ireland. He is survived by brothers John of Henderson NV and J. Arthur of Denton TX.

Len was predeceased by his brother Charles of Saint John’s, Newfoundland. Calling hours will be from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Sunday March 3 2019 at Firtion-Adams Funeral Home in Westfield. A reception will follow at Tucker’s Restaurant in Southwick MA.

Internment will be in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Recreation Department of the Holyoke Soldiers Home, 110 Cherry St. Holyoke MA 01040.
