Leonard “Skip” Jochim, 77, of Evansville, passed away Friday, May 3, 2019 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital. He was born November 20, 1941 in Evansville, IN to the late Leonard N. and Marjorie (Moore) Jochim. Skip was a longtime member of St. Mary`s Catholic Church and is presently a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church.

He graduated from Memorial High School in the class of 1959 and went on to graduate from ISUE in 1974. Skip was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was owner and operator of the Leather Man and was known as the “Leather Man” and retired from Sterling Boiler in 2007.

He and his wife Carol raised, bred, and showed horses. Skip was past president of IKIQHA, Chandler Saddle Club and Dusty Trail Saddle Club. Skip loved to tell that he was born on Franksgiving Day November 20, 1941 “ Franklin Roosevelt had changed Thanksgiving day so merchants could have an extra week of Christmas shopping, people didn’t like the change so they moved it back” He loved spending time with his family and friends and especially enjoyed the brothers golf outing.

Skip is survived by daughters, Kimberly Meyerholtz (Mark) of Avon, IN, Kelly Birkhead (Joe) of Evansville; grandchildren, Kyle (Caitlin) and Alexandria Meyerholtz, Mary and Peter Birkhead; brothers, Steve (Ann), Jim (JoAnne), Michael (Lynda) and Charlie (Lynn) Jochim; sisters, Nancy (Jim) Sylvester and Marcia (Bill) Martin; brother in law, Mike Purdy; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents; wife, Carol A Jochim on April 24, 2017; infant son, Kenneth Allen Jochim on April 11, 1969; and sister in law, Dana Purdy. Visitation will be 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2019 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave.

, Evansville. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9:00 -10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at St. Mary and John Catholic Church, 613 Cherry St, Evansville, IN 47713. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at the church with Father Stephen Lintzenich officiating.

Entombment will be in St. Joseph Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to the House of Bread and Peace, 250 E. Chandler Ave. , Evansville, IN 47713.
