Freeland, MI Lewis Fenton, husband, father, teacher, and coach passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at the age of 82. He was the son of the late Lyman and Angela (Walkowski) Fenton. Lew was born on October 16, 1936 and grew up in Pinconning, MI.

He married his sweetheart Beverly (Miller) Fenton on August 9, 1958. Beverly predeceased him in 2008. He was graduated from Pinconning High School and Central Michigan University, where he played football and was on the wrestling team.

Lew retired from teaching and coaching in the 1990’s. He began his teaching and coaching career in Port Austin, followed by Owendale-Gagetown, Saginaw MacArthur High School, Eisenhower High School, Heritage High School and Carrollton High School. Lew was honored to be the only head football coach at Eisenhower, where he spent much of his career.

Throughout the years he also coached track, basketball, and baseball. In 1994 he was inducted into the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He was named the Regional Football Coach of the Year in 1974 and 1983 and named the Outstanding Assistant Coach of the Year in 1989 and 1991, by the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association.

Over the years he coached teams to many White Pine Conference Championships, including a three-year run from 1973-1975, which included two undefeated seasons (1973 & 1974). Lew was proud to be recognized by the Saginaw County Boys and Girls Club for his dedication to service to the youth of Saginaw. Lew loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his cabin in the Mt.

Forest Hunt Club in Newberry, Michigan. He was a member of the Sports Sages and the Saginaw Steelheaders Club. His hobbies included woodworking and cultivating roses.

He enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Freeland SportZone (or as he called it, the Sweat Shop). He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Fenton of Katy, Texas and Marsha Fenton of Lansing, Michigan. He was predeceased by his parents Lyman and Angela, his wife Beverly, his siblings Robert Fenton of Ridgecrest CA, Avis Fenton Mahoney of Pinconning, MI and Daniel Fenton of Linwood MI.

Funeral Service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 8, 2019 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. , (between Shattuck and McCarty). Pastor Julie Bailey will officiate.

Private interment will take place in Pinconning Township Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home where the family will be present on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Shriners Hospital for Children or Camp Fish Tales, 2177 E. Erickson Rd, Pinconning, Michigan 48650.
