HOLYOKE Lillian C. Lagoy, DHM, died on Monday, June 18th, at the Marian Center, residence of her religious community, the Daughters of the Heart of Mary. She was born to the late Gilbert J. and Clara M. (Coash) Lagoy on March 14, 1930, in Westfield, MA. The Lagoy family made their home in Huntington, MA.

where Lillian attended the local schools. She graduated first in her class from Huntington High School. While in her junior year of high school, Lillian was offered a part time job with the local U. S. Post Office; it was the start of a ten-year Civil Service career with the postal system.

Lillian was active in her parish, St. Thomas in Huntington, teaching religious education. She volunteered to be the parish contact person with the Marian Center in Holyoke where she met the Daughters of the Heart of Mary. It was there that she met Fr.

John Johnson, who would come to be her spiritual advisor for many years. He recommended that she consider looking into a vocation as a Daughter of the Heart of Mary. Lillian followed this call and pronounced her vows as a member of this religious congregation on August 19, 1962.

Having completed studies in Food Service, she was assigned to the mission of Manager of the Food Service Department at St. Joseph’s School for the Deaf, Bronx, NY, a mission of the DHM. Lillian returned to Holyoke in 1967 and continued in service to the mission of the Daughters of the Heart of Mary. In addition to her parents, Lillian is pre-deceased by her brothers Leonard and John, and her sisters, Rita, Jean and Anna May.

She is survived by her brothers James and his wife Linda of Worthington, MA; Edward and his wife Barbara, of Ashfield, MA, Sr. Mary Elizabeth, Latham, NY; Theresa Ann, Worthington, MA; Claire Helen, Aiken, S.C., and her sister-in-law, Elizabeth, Vancouver, WA. ; several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews; and her sisters in religion, the Daughters of the Heart of Mary. Calling hours will be held at the Marian Center, 1365 Northampton Street, Holyoke, on Friday, June 22nd, 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m., with the Franciscan Friars of Our Lady of the Cross Parish presiding.

Services are under the direction of the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home.
