Obituary for Lillie Marie Shuler Lillie Marie Shuler, a resident of San Antonio, Texas entered into rest on April 14, 2018. She was born in Floresville, Texas on January 21, 1918 and was the eldest of eight children born to her parents John and Martha Baird. She married the love of her life James Franklin Shuler on August 9, 1937 and they made their home in San Antonio.

James built their home where they raised their four children. Most of their free time was spent with their family’s church and various school activities, along with gardening, dominoes with family and friends, and frequent family get-togethers. After James’ death in 1978, Marie continued her career as a cafeteria manager for the Harlandale Independent School District, retiring in 1981.

She was very involved in church and community activities, and enjoyed outings with her family, neighbors, and friends. She especially enjoyed her monthly Bunco Club which she was a member of for over 25 years. She was also an avid gardener, an excellent seamstress, and a faithful fan of San Antonio Spurs.

Marie was a devout Southern Baptist. She was currently a member of Crossroads Baptist Church and a previous member of Bellaire Baptist Church, both in San Antonio. She served on various committees in the church throughout her life and taught Sunday School for many years.

She was also an avid member of the seniors groups both at Crossroads Baptist and Bellaire Baptist, enjoying various activities, trips and outings sponsored by the groups. Marie was honored with a 100th birthday celebration on January 20, 2018 which was attended by approximately 120 of her family and friends. Marie was preceded in death by her husband James Shuler, her parents John and Martha Baird, her brothers J.L. Baird and Floyd Ray Baird, her sisters Ruby Shuler, Edna Holland, Jean O’Donnell, and Faye McGee.

She is survived by her four children Marlene Green and her husband John, Barbara Gerard and her husband Jack, Claudell Ginn and her husband Buddy, and James (Jim) Shuler and his wife Sharon, her sister Martha Riordan, 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, 3401 Cherry Ridge, San Antonio, Texas 78230 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 20, 2018. A celebration of Marie’s life will be held at Crossroads Baptist Church, 8300 Tezel Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78254 at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018.

Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park, 1701 Austin HWY, San Antonio, TX 78218 immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Crossroads Baptist Church, Bellaire Baptist Church, or Kindred Hospice of San Antonio.
