Lois Greene Obituary Photo

Lois Greene was called home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, June 1, 2018. She was in her home when she passed into eternal life. Her legacy of love as the matriarch of the Greene family will last forever.

She was born July 15, 1926 to her parents Claude and Mabel Masear. She is predeceased by her sister, Eleanor (5 years old); her brother, Carl; her loving husband, Lewis (in June of 1994); and her youngest son, David who left us far too soon. She is survived by her brothers, Lyle and Clyde; and her sister, Arlene.

Those who had the privilege and honor of calling her mom are her sons, Richard (Ronis), Ron, and Larry (Mary). She had no greater joy than enjoying her 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She was so excited to meet her first great-great-grand child that is on the way.

There is both comfort and shock that she was taken from us so quickly and suddenly. But oh the memories that we have. You knew right away that she was the center point of the Greene family.

Her home was the gathering place. The loud and boisterous extended family would spread out in her home laughing, talking, maybe watching a ballgame. No special occasion was needed because being together was special enough.

This was her deepest joy and to be in her presence was our deepest joy. The delight in her eyes when we were around is unforgettable. Nearly every surface in her home was covered with pictures of the ones she loved.

Old pictures were never replaced. New ones just found a space. Her home was a gathering place not only for her family but for the friends of her children and grandchildren, many of whom called her Grandma Greene.

Her legacy is this. She showed us how to genuinely love. Grandma was a member of North Baptist Church and retired from National Lock Company in Rockford.

A special thank you from the family to her neighbor Donna for being a wonderful neighbor. Funeral service will be at 3:00pm Friday, June 8, 2018 with a visitation from 1:30pm until the service in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park. Ron Greene will be officiating.

Because of her deep love for animals, the family is asking that in lieu of flowers any memorials may be made to Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter.
