Lois’ Obituary Lois Jean Hawkins, age 82, of Topeka passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at her home in Topeka. Lois was born September 13, 1936 in Topeka the daughter of Forrest and Ruby Huske Hastings. Lois graduated from Topeka High School in 1954.
While younger she worked at Penny Saver. She later worked at Capper’s Weekly, Forbes Supply Depot and even operated a day care out of her home. Lois married Harold Hawkins December 11, 1955 in Topeka.
He preceded her in death August 31, 2006. Lois was an attending member of Northland Christian Church for over 30 years where she taught a sewing class for many years. She was a member of the Kansas Capital Quilters and Country Quilters.
Later in life, she donated croquetted caps to the Cancer Center. Throughout her life, Lois enjoyed bowling, volleyball and throwing hatchets at the Capital City Gun Club where her and Harold were members. She was also a Camp Fire Leader.
She enjoyed playing cards. Lois and Harold enjoyed traveling and camping. Lois also volunteered at the Florence Crittenton Home.
Survivors include three daughters, Karen S. (Denny) McCart of Ozawkie, Lori (Frank) Zeller of Paxico and Angela Reed of Topeka; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Lois was preceded in death by three brothers, F.V. Hastings, Robert Hastings and Gary Hastings. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Northland Christian Church.
She will lie in state Monday from noon – 8:00 p.m. with visitation from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Northland Christian Church or Ronald McDonald House and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home.
