Lois Wanecek Thomas passed away on October 6, 2018. Born on May 15, 1926, Lois graduated from Newton Mass High School, Westbrook Junior College and later graduated from Gorham State Teachers College in 1965. Lois was one of the first older adults to go back to school.

Her husband and three children were very supportive with her school homework and projects. She informed her professors that her efforts were a family project and they were enthusiastic. She graduated with a 4.

0 average. She was married to David Thomas for over 60 years. Their great passion was spending time at their camp on Little Sebago Lake.

She and David were constantly together. They loved taking their children water skiing and visits with grandchildren at the lake. Later she and David took several car trips across the United States.

After an early retirement, she spent winters with her husband in Florida, attending dances and traveling to attractions throughout the state. She taught 20 years at Roosevelt and Longfellow School which her children attended. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Club, Portland College Club and Cooking for Fun.

In Florida she was active in the Sun City Center Women’s Club and a member of the Sun City Center Branch of the American Associate of University Women. She was also active in Chapter 28 of AARP. Survivors include her daughter Susan Thomas of Old Orchard Beach, ME; grandsons John Swan, partner Dr Elena Ashikhmina of Rochester, Minnesota, Michael Swan of Old Orchard; son D. Jeffrey Thomas and wife Colleen of Wimauma, FL.

; Barbara Michaels and husband Fran of Saco; and granddaughters, Jennifer Gervais and husband Kyle; Lexie Michaels of Westbrook; and great grandsons James Swan, Ivan Swan and Hudson Gervais. The family would like to thank the staff at Springbrook Center in Westbrook, Maine. Visiting hours will be 10am to noon on Friday, October 12 with a memorial service directly after at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Ave.

, Portland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Animal Refuge League.
