Lorraine’s Obituary Lorraine L. Weidman, 89, of Wind Gap, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 25, 2019 in Chandler Estates, Plainfield Township. She was the wife of Herbert Weidman; together they shared 68 years of marriage. Born September 1, 1929 in Nazareth, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Olga Steiner Lilly.

Lorraine graduated from Nazareth High School in 1947 and the Wilford Beauty Academy of Philadelphia in 1948. She also attended training sessions for home health care at Gracedale. Before retiring, she worked at various beauty shops, Fenner Silk Mill, Gaye Sportswear and cared for the elderly in the Slate Belt for 10 years.

Lorraine was a very active member of the former Trinity Lutheran Church in Wind Gap. She served as director of the junior choir, lay reader, was active in the altar guild for 30 years, past president of the Lutheran Church Women and sang with the senior choir for 45 years. She also served as past president of the Wind Gap PTA, assistant treasurer for the Pennsylvania NCHA in the 70’s and along with her husband Herb, volunteered at the Slate Belt Senior Center for many years where she was well known for her impersonation of Phyllis Diller.

Her motto was as follows: To treat others with kindness, love and understanding. Very important to pray for others, and have a shoulder and open mind for those in need. Never speak unkind to others.

And put out a hand to help those in need! Lorraine is survived by her husband, Herb; daughters, Deborah Robinson, and her husband Hugh of Wellington, FL, Sharon Kostenbader and her husband Chris of Casa Grande, AZ, and Susan Samus and her husband John of Mt. Joy; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, William Lilly, and sister, Isabella Brong. Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Saturday, March 30, from 10-11 am in St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1422 Church Rd, Pen Argyl (Plainfield Township). A funeral service will follow at 11 am in the church.

Lorraine will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, Nazareth. Arrangements are under the care of the Schmidt Funeral Home, 202 West St., Wind Gap. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lorraine’s name may be offered to Amedisys Foundation, 3897 Adler Place, Bldg C, Ste 180, Bethlehem, PA 18017.
