Lou Emma Kelley, 98, returned to her heavenly home on May 18, 2019. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her through this life and ultimately gave her peace. Lou was born to the late John and Johnnie Myrtle Bankston Berry, in Clarksville, TX on December 21, 1920.

She worked for Ranger Boot Factory in Terrell until they closed the business and then went to work for Southland Athletic Manufacturing Company where she worked 25 years before retiring. Lou married Earl Kelley on November 12, 1938 and they raised one daughter. Lou was kind and soft spoken, and always made time for her family.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Rebekah (Enjoyer’s) Sunday School Class. She is dearly missed by her loved ones who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with the Lord. Lou is survived by her daughter Linda Peters and husband James; her grandson, Joe Don Peters and wife Tricia; great grandchildren, Amber Peters and Travis Bearden and their mother Dorene; one great-great granddaughter, Ansley; two sisters-in-law, Virgie Berry Mangam and Patsy Berry; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of wonderful friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister Mary Jane Tidmore; her brothers W.J. Berry and John Orville Berry and her niece Shelly Jean Berry Ashcraft. Services for Lou will be under the direction of Max Slayton Funerals and Cremations, 642 N. Rockwall Avenue, Terrell, TX 75160 with the Reverends Ernie McCoulskey and John Lowrie officiating on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel. Family will receive friends beginning one hour prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Burial will be at Oakland Memorial Cemetery. Contributions may be made in memory of Lou to the First Baptist Church-Matthew 25: fund or your favorite charity. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Lou Emma Kelley please visit our Sympathy Store.
