OBITUARY Louis McElwain May 31, 1928 – November 6, 2018 Louis McElwain, 90, of Bergenfield, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. He was born in Derryallaghan, Knockatallon, County Monaghan, Ireland to John and Margaret McElwain. Beloved husband of Bridget “Bridie” McElwain (nee Costello).

Devoted father of Mary Petriccione and her husband Richard, Louis McElwain and his wife Maureen, Marcella Sweeney and her husband Dennis. Dear brother of Margaret O’Connor. Loving grandfather of Meghan, Sean, Tommy, Lauren, Timmy, Maggie, Brendan and Hilary.

He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sisters and brothers, Mary, Hugh, John, Patrick, James, Charles, Agnes and Owen. Upon arriving in America in 1950, he gained employment at the Waldorf Astoria where he worked for 45 years, rising to Director of Housekeeping.

In this job, Dad met U.S. Presidents, Pope Paul VI, Ambassadors, Senators, CEO’s, Celebrities and Rock Stars. His favorites included Gen. McArthur, Lucille Ball and Postmaster General William Farley.

He was Treasurer of the New York Pioneers Club and an Usher at Ascension Parish, New Milford, NJ. The family will receive their relatives and friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Thursday (TODAY) from 5-9PM. The Funeral Mass celebrating Louis’ life and faith will be held at Ascension R.C. Church, 256 Azalea Drive, New Milford, NJ on Friday, November 9 at 9:30AM.

Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, Airmont, NY.
