Obituary for Louis P. Parello Louis P. Parello, 79, died early Monday morning, April 16. Lou was born in Fort Wadsworth, moved to New Dorp in 1954, graduating from New Dorp High School in 1956. Lou spent 2 years in active Army service, and 4 years in reserve duty; he was particularly proud of instructing soldiers how to shoot M1 Carbines, as these rifles have very little recoil, even though they make a big noise.

He worked 18 years at Eastman Dillon (Wall St.) as a back-office supervisor, and drove a school bus with Pioneer Transportation until retiring in 2009. From 1969, Lou lived in Annadale with his family, who were his first priority. With his wife Penny of 53 years, Lou had 5 children: JR (deceased), Monica (Michael), Melissa, Stephanie, and Michael (Erica); and 3 grandchildren Victoria, Alexander, and Elizabeth.

He had 4 siblings: Frank (deceased), Helen, Margaret, and Anthony. He was an expert car mechanic, and could fix just about anything. A longtime fisherman, boatman, and crabber, he was a member of the Great Kills Yacht Club since 1995.

He was an avid hunter, archer, and conservationist; and inspired countless students with 40 years as a Hunter Safety Instructor for New York States Department of Environmental Conservation. He harvested wild mushrooms as his father taught him, and knew all the best spots on Staten Island to find them (and took the secret with him). A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday at Holy Child Church located at 4747 Amboy Rd Staten Island, New York 10312.

Interment will be in Forest Green Memorial Park, Morganville, NJ. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Tuesday & Wednesday at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
