Lucille Marie Temple, 94 of Howesville, WV passed away Thursday, January 31, 2019 in the comfort of her home. She was born, December 14, 1924, the daughter of late Arthur and Pearl (Salisbury) Miller. She was a 1942 graduate of Kingwood High School.

After graduation she moved to Baltimore where she worked for two years supporting the war effort before returning home to attend college at Fairmont State where she completed a bachelor’s degree in education. In 1946 Lucille married Lantz Temple and they began a successful journey to help educate many students in Preston County Schools. During this time, she worked as an elementary teacher in many of the one and two room schools around the county and later enjoyed teaching mathematics at Tunnelton High School.

After receiving a master’s degree in Education Administration from West Virginia University, she worked as a county office administrator and spent her final years in education as the principal of Valley Elementary School. Even with a busy career Lucille took time to be involved in her community. She belonged to the Kingwood Civic Club and was a founding and faithful member of the Howesville Church of Christ.

Retiring never slowed Lucille down, she just had more time to spend enjoying her grandchildren, traveling with friends, learning to quilt, and planning summer bible school programs. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Lantz and a sister, Irene Lanham. She is survived by her son, David and wife Colleen, grandchildren Lori Temple of Los Angeles and Brandy Golenia and husband Peter of Boston.

Family and Friends will be received at Browning Funeral Home in Kingwood, WV from 1:30-3:30 on Sunday February 3, 2019 and on Monday, February 4 from 10:00 until the 11:00 service which will be officiated by Gene Kessel. Interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery in Kingwood, WV. The family would like to express their gratitude to her caregivers who spent countless hours devoting their time to make Lucille’s life remain meaningful and happy, WV Caring, the staff from Preston County Senior Citizens, and Dr. Michael Schwarzenberg.
