Lula Handy, of Charlestown, MD, died on July 7, 2018. Mrs. Handy moved to Cecil County, MD, in 1952, with her husband and children. She was born in Hayes County, NC on January 28, 1927, the daughter of the late Mack and Ona Gambill Montgomery.

Mrs. Handy enjoyed her children and grandchildren. She especially loved her garden, working in her roses and going to the casino. She is survived by her children: Margie Hughes, of Eltopia, WA, Helen Handy of Raleigh, NC, Brenda Sue Darnell (Ronnie) and Susie Handy Walker, both of Elkin, NC, Linda Shirley Handy of Laurel, DE, Marie Ward (Charles), Georgia Schneider and Michael Handy (Karen) of Elkton, MD.

She had 21 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband: Coy Handy; two sons: Bentford C. Handy, and Jessy D. Handy; and her grandchildren: LeEllen C. Battaglia, and William Francis Graham, Jr She was especially cared for by her wonderful daughter, Brenda Sue Darnell, who took exceptional care of her mother over the past three years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Amedisys Hospice, 107 Chesapeake Blvd. , Ste. 134, Elkton, MD 21921.

The service will be private.
