Lydia Burgin Jackson, recently of Fayetteville, Georgia and formerly of Cave City, Kentucky died at the age of 93 on February 20, 2019 after many well-lived years and a brief illness. She was born on October 29, 1925 to Jettie (Runner) and James Burgin in Bloomfield, Kentucky, one of ten children. She enjoyed growing up on the family farm riding horses with her brother Homer, caring for her sister Bettie, gathering eggs and selling them at the local grocers, and climbing the plentiful fruit trees while munching on their bounty.

After graduating from high school she worked in Louisville during the first days of WWII making bullet casings in ‘Rosie the Riveter” fashion. She completed her academic education at Freed-Hardeman College in Henderson, Tennessee and later taught elementary school beginning in a two-room school house served by well water. She was baptized into Jesus Christ at a tender age and continued to serve Him faithfully throughout her life.

She married Bruce Fulmer Jackson of Florence, Alabama, a minister of the Gospel, on Aug 29, 1948. She labored alongside him, supporting and spurring on the ministry in Arkansas, Alabama, Kentucky and Virginia. She influenced many children, teaching lively Sunday school classes in the many places of worship where she and Bruce served.

Lydia was an exemplary mother to her five children, as each of them will attest. She was preceded in death in 1953 by a baby boy, Larry Glen, an event that shaped her values and ability to empathize with others who had experienced similar events. She was also preceded in death by husband, Bruce after 57 years of marriage.

Survivors (Those who mourn her) include son, David Jackson and his wife, Kathryn of Memphis, David’s daughter, Jill Jackson; daughter Diane Brown of Smyrna, Tennessee and her husband Steve, their children Matt (Adriana) Brown, Miriam (Brandon) Elkins, Joanna (Bryant) Perez, and Marcos (Hannah) Brown; daughter, Denise Jackson, a grandson, Keyson Whiteside; and daughter, Debra (Tim) Thomas of Fayetteville, GA and their children, Lily, Ben, Sophia, and Annabel; as well as 10 great grandchildren and many close family friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 23 at Greenview Memorial Chapel in Florence Alabama at 1:00 with visitation at 12:00.

A private burial service will follow at Tri Cities Memorial Gardens, in Florence.
