Mack J. “Chico” Shope Jr. age 69 of East Asheville Passed away Thursday May 4, 2018 at his home after a courageous battle with Cancer. He was a native of Buncombe County and a son of the late Mack J Sr. and Emmaline Carey Shope. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War with the US Army as a crew chief on a OV-1 aircraft.

He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America, the Moose Lodge in Marion with a Fellowship Degree. He was also a member of Oteen Baptist Church in Asheville. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Sharon Cuomo Shope his two sons Randy James Shope (Dana) of Charlotte, Jeffrey Scott Shope of Asheville.

And his granddaughter Logan Lynn Shope of Charlotte. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday May 8, at Oteen Baptist Church. Rev.

Joe Steadman and Rev. Ron Brown will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at Skyview Memorial Park in East Asheville.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 Tuesday at Oteen Baptist Church Memorials may be made to Oteen Baptist Church at 37 Oteen Church Road Asheville NC 28805, Disabled American Veterans at 1100 Tunnel Road Asheville NC 28805 Penland Family Funeral Home is honored to be caring for the Shope family.
