Obituary for Madeline Manzella Townsend Townsend, Madeline Manzella passed away peacefully into Heaven on October 17, 2018 at her residence. She was born on February 12, 1937 to the late Peter and Rosalie Manzella. She is preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband Elwin “EJ” Townsend of 61 years and her siblings Joseph P. Manzella and MaryAnn Sawyer.

Madeline has been a lifelong resident of the New Orleans Metro Area. She was 81 years old. She was a caring mother to Donna Townsend (Carl), David Townsend Sr. (Dwana) and Diane Gallup.

Grandmother of Roxanne Petikas, Ryan Gallup (Kristan), David Townsend Jr., Brandi Schexnayder (Matt), Whitney Townsend and Peyton Gallup. Great Grandmother of Kaylyn Petikas, Alexia Petikas, Nicholas Petikas, Madalyn Schexnayder, Cora Gallup, Emelia Schexnayder and Norah Danielson. Mrs. Townsend is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Madeline also enjoyed baking cookies for the St. Joseph Altar at St. Cletus and walking in the mornings at Oakwood Mall with the Golden Opportunities. She was a great cook and everyone could be found around her table for her infamous Blue Runner Red Beans but she never missed an opportunity to go out to dinner. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and daughter, who enjoyed spending time and making memories with her family.

She is best remembered for her love for her family. She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Heart Association.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Monday October 22, 2018 from 9AM until 1PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 1PM. Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA.
