Obituary for Marcia Van Skiver Mrs. Marcia L (Van Duzer) Van Skiver, born on March 4, 1929 in Auburn, New York, to the late Persis (Peacock) and Howard Van Duzer, passed away at age 89 on August 27, 2018 in her home in Broomfield, Colorado. Mrs. Van Skiver graduated from East High School, Auburn, NY. She continued her education at Hope College, Hope, MI, and graduated from Alfred University, Alfred, NY, and Bright School of Floral Design, Chicago, IL.
She worked in the Floral industry at multiple businesses in Illinois, New York, and Colorado as a manager and floral designer prior to having children. She briefly resumed her Floral work after her son graduated from High School until she retired in the early 1990s. Mrs. Van Skiver was married to Duane Van Skiver, whom she affectionately called “Van,” for 59 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one stillborn son; five sisters and their spouses; her husband’s parents, five siblings, and their spouses; two nephews; and two nieces. Mrs. Van Skiver is survived by her husband, Duane Van Skiver, a son, Michael Van Skiver and his wife Meta; two grandchildren; a daughter, Amy Blechinger and her husband Pete; two step grandchildren and their families; as well as many nieces and nephews. She had a passion for reading, gardening, and playing bridge.
She was devoted to her family and friends. Mrs. Van Skiver and her family were active members of the Broomfield United Methodist Church in the late 1970s to mid-1980s. Later in life Mrs. Van Skiver was an active member of several local ladies bridge groups, and The Social Order of the Beauceant, a Masonic organization for women.
Donations in Mrs. Van Skiver’s name to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and The Social Order of the Beauceant are welcome and appreciated. Friends and family can pay their respects at the memorial service, officiated by Gary Cummins, Associate Minister for Dayspring Christian Church of Windsor, CO, on Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Rundus Funeral Home, 1998 West 10th Avenue, Broomfield, Colorado, 80020.
