At the age of 97, Maria Piedad (Peggy) Sanchez entered eternal life on June 8, 2018. Peggy was born on March 19, 1921 in La Villita, NM. She was the fourth of 14 children.

She attended the Mission School in Alcalde and earned her GED in 1981 at TVI Community College. She loved to dance and met Maximo at a dance when she was 19. They were married December 28, 1940 and remained so for 69 years.

Peggy worked as a nursing assistant, a maid, and most recently a sales clerk at Old Town Indian Trading Post for 25 years. Peggy was dedicated to our Lord, Mary, and the Catholic Church. She was a member of Las Madres Cristianas, Blue Army, and the Sacred Heart League.

She was devoted to daily rosaries and daily mass. She was godmother to thirteen godchildren. Peggy raised her family to be respectful, to love, and to serve others.

Helping others always came first for her. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Maximo (Max) Sanchez, her parents Teofilo and Elvira Medina, twelve siblings and several nieces and nephews. Peggy is survived by her brother Johnny Medina and wife, Cora, sister-in-law Pearl Sanchez and brother-in-law Tony Martinez; her children Ramon Sanchez and wife Jenny, Marian Perez and husband Deacon Frank, Mike Sanchez, Shirley Atwood and husband Dave, and Vera Liljestrand; her grandchildren Jessica, Russell, Frank (Ward), Heather and husband Mike, Peggy and husband Mike, Elizabeth and husband Bryan, Matthew and wife Elizabeth, Katherine, Isaiah, Isabel and Nicholas, 17 great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild.

Viewing – Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church from 6-7pm on Wednesday, June 13th with a rosary by the Hermanos of the Morada. Mass of Resurrection – Thursday June 14th at 11 am. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna Rd.

NW. Graveside service and burial – Mount Calvary Cemetery on 1900 Edith Blvd. NE (south of Menaul and I-40).

The family is most grateful to all the caretakers from Sandia Ridge Nursing Home, as well as Margie Chavez, Liz Jones, Dion Sanchez and Pam Martinez for helping out at a moment’s notice. The family is especially grateful to Willie Chavez from San Felipe Church for administering the Eucharist over the past five years.
