OBITUARY Mariana P. Blamphin December 23, 1919 – August 31, 2018 Our beloved mother, Mariana Prince Blamphin passed away peacefully on Friday, August 31, 2018, at the age of 98. She was born December 23, 1919, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of almost 60 years Arthur Zirión Blamphin.
She was the daughter of the late Pedro Cranfelt Prince of Belize and Mariana Antonia Escobar de Prince of El Salvador. Also, preceding her in death were her daughter-in-law Carolyn Delorme Blamphin, her grandson Carl Steven Feske, and many life-long friends. Mrs. Blamphin immigrated to the United States in April, 1935, at the age of 15.
She resided in the University Section of New Orleans with her aunt and cousins, also of Honduras, and attended Henry W. Allen School. She became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1941. As a young woman she worked as a bilingual secretary at the Port of Embarkation and for Pan American Airlines.
She loved her work. She and Arthur married in 1943. Arthur was an officer and physician in the U.S. Army during WWII.
During his service they lived in Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Washington, and California. Her widowed mother (known to us as Mamita) joined the family in New Orleans in the 1940s. Mariana assisted our father in his practice for many years and enjoyed reading, traveling, the arts, and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her five children Louise Price (Lionel) and Chuck Blamphin of New Orleans, Carlee Blamphin (Steven Feske) of Belmont, MA, Nancy “Ching” Brodsky (Greg) of Santa Cruz, CA, and Mark Blamphin (Julia Bounds) of Titus, AL; her grandchildren Charles David Blamphin (Kris) and Peter Francis Blamphin of New Orleans, Galen Blamphin Brodsky of Oakland, CA, and Joel S. Feske of New York, NY; step grandsons Sasha Brodsky of Santa Cruz, CA and Osha Brodsky of Los Angeles, CA; great-grandchildren Grace, Riley, Caroline, and Peter, Jr.; and step great-granddaughter Cole Duggins. We will miss our beloved and deeply cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She maintained her gracious manners and fine sense of humor to the end of her long life.
The Blamphin family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the dedicated staff of the Chateau de Notre Dame Assisted Living and the Archbishop Hannan Rehab Unit staff, and the Notre Dame Hospice for their kind and attentive care for our mother during her residency there. Services shall be conducted at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Saturday, September the 8th, from 11:30AM to 1PM.
