Marian Hubbard Erickson, 98, of Midland passed away peacefully the afternoon of July 25, 2018 at Blue Ridge Christian Home near Bealeton surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 21, 1919, in Republic, Missouri, to the late Alfred J. Hubbard and Margaret Deem Hubbard. Mrs. Erickson was known for her strong work ethic, honed from growing up on a farm in southwest Missouri during the Great Depression.

She had an independent and generous spirit. She told many great stories about growing up in the Midwest when “a loaf of bread and an ice cream cone cost a nickel, and a chicken dinner cost 25 cents”. At age eight she picked quarts of strawberries for a few pennies in the summertime.

She had to milk the family cow before walking to school each day. She loved playing string bass in her high school orchestra. At age 21, she moved from Carthage, Missouri to Washington D.C. where she found a job at the U.S. Health Department.

She worked there as a supervisor for 30 years. She met her future husband, John on a blind date when they went to dinner and an Elvis Presley movie. They got married in 1958 and had their only child a year later.

The couple retired in the early 1970s and moved to their farm in Bristersburg. Mrs. Erickson loved to sew, quilt, can vegetables and bake lemon meringue pies, and German chocolate cake. She raised her own child, grandchildren and helped raise her sister’s four children.

She attended Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church in Bristersburg for more than 55 years. Mrs. Erickson is survived by her daughter, Katrina Erickson Brown and son-in-law James of Midland; her grandchildren, Cassandra, Alyssa (Eric) and Nigel Brown; nephews Mike Gonzales (Pat) of Midland, Fred Gonzales (Shirley) of Pennsylvania and Glenn Gonzales; great nieces Melissa Finley (Jim), Pam Kendall and Teresa Gonzales; great great niece Lesley McLain and great great nephew Jonathan Williams; and many loving extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, John Erickson; her sister Doris Gonzales; brothers Glen and Alfred Hubbard; sister-in-laws Eva and Harriett Erickson, and Lillian Upchurch; brother-in-law Dick Upchurch; niece Caroline Jensen and great great nephew Steven M. Kendall. The family extends special thanks to Blue Ridge Christian Home and staff for their loving, compassionate care they provided to Marian for three years and to Heartland Hospice Care. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 1 and hold a memorial service at 2 p.m. at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton.

Interment at Bright View Cemetery near Warrenton and a reception at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt.

Horeb United Methodist Church, Catlett. Online condolences may be offered at www. moserfuneralhome.com.
