Marie Ditora , June 23, 1928 — July 12, 2018

Marie (Hidalgo) Ditora was born in Santa Cruz, California on June 23, 1928. She passed away on July 12, 2018 from the effects of Alzheimer’s Disease, which she battled with dignity and grace for almost twelve years. Marie’s parents emigrated from Spain and came to the United States in the early 1900’s as agricultural workers.

Marie was fluent in Spanish. She loved to garden, and often could be seen in her front yard pruning roses and listening to San Francisco Giants games on her transistor radio. Marie met and married Frank Ditora in Richmond, California in 1948.

Marie and Frank moved to Merced in 1954. Marie was very involved in the Infant of Prague Adoption Auxillary and the Hospital Assistance League. Marie was a dedicated volunteer at Mercy Hospital, where she could share her gift for helping and caring for others.

Marie took up line dancing in the 1990’s after Frank tragically passed away in 1986. She made many friends line dancing, which she enjoyed immensely. Marie was a devoted mother to and is survived by her son, David Ditora, and her daughter, Diane Ditora.

Marie is also survived by her grandson, Derek Ditora. Marie’s family would like to thank the caregivers at several Sacramento-area memory care facilities for their loving care for her during the last years of her life. A brief burial service will take place on July 20, 2018 at Evergreen Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 1480 B Street, Merced at 10:00 a.m. Donations may be made in Marie’s memory to Northern California and Northern Nevada Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, norcalinfo@alz.org or Sacramento Office, 1455 Response Road, Sacramento, CA 95815.
