Hortensia Garcia was born on September 13, 1924 in Tolleson, Arizona. After a brief illness went home to her Savior on October 16th 2018, surrounded by her loving family in Merced, California. Hortensia lived most of her life in Merced.

In her early years she attended schools in Glendale and was raised in Glendale AZ, where she met her future husband Jesus Garcia and were married in 1946. They migrated to central California in the late 1950’s and made Merced their home. She was a homemaker and loved cooking.

She loved to garden and sew, was known for her fried chicken on Sundays, her famous empanadas and Christmas tamales. She worked at various canneries in Merced and Atwater. She was an inspiration, her enthusiasm and her zest for life was amazing, she was truly loved by her family & many friends and will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her Husband Jesus Garcia, Son Jesse, Brother Antonio, Sisters Louisa, Amalia and Ernestina. Survived by Sons Roberto Garcia, Ventura (Ann), Henry (Marcela) and only Daughter Mary Helen Garcia and Sister Consuelo and Brother Alfredo. Also survived by 8 Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren and 7 Great Great Grandchildren and Numerous Nieces and Nephews.

Visitation will take place on Monday, October 22nd 2018 from 4 to 8pm with the Holy Rosary at 6pm at Ivers and Alcorn Funeral home. A funeral mass will take place Tuesday, October 23th 2018 at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Merced at 10:00am with Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Merced, California The family would like to express their thankfulness to Bristol Hospice and Dr. Eugenia Garcia and family and friends for the care of our dear mother.
