Marie Elisar December 24, 1925 – January 7, 2019 Marie Young Elisar, age 93, of Slidell Louisiana passed away at home on Monday, January 7, 2019. Marie was kind and caring. She was blessed with sincere spirituality and a deep devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary.

Marie is preceded in death by her loving husband of 74 years, Hardie J. Elisar; infant daughter, Susan Marie Elisar; her parents, Richard and Gertie Young; sisters, Clara Belle Babin and Isabel Wintz. Marie is survived by sons, Jack Elisar of Franklin, Tennessee and Leslie (Dana) Elisar of Slidell; daughters Shirley (Ben) Mullins of Vancleave Mississippi and Brenda (Rodney) Hart of Slidell; brother Eddins “Grip” Young of Dutchtown, Louisiana. She was affectionately called “Rie” by her 7 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Born: December 24, 1925 Death: January 7, 2019 She is also survived by close family friend Lynne Finch (Jeff) Kerling of Slidell who was like a daughter; and close family friend David (Becky) Chauffe of New Iberia who was like a son. Marie was born December 24, 1925 in Dutchtown, Louisiana, where she and Hardie met and fell in love. In April, 1943, Hardie moved to New Mexico to be with his mother who moved there for health reasons.

In July, 1943 Marie joined Hardie in Albuquerque where they were married on August 2, 1943. In May, 1951 the family with then 2 children moved to Baton Rouge where Hardie began his long career with Prudential Ins. Co. In 1958, a job promotion brought the family to Jackson, Mississippi where they resided until 1969.

Then another job transfer brought the family to Slidell, Louisiana closer to where Marie and Hardie grew up. In the early years, Marie was a “stay-at-home Mom”. She was always there with home cooked meals, fresh baked cookies, motherly advice and prayers.

She was loving mother who absolutely “adored” her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She and Hardie enjoyed hosting and entertaining family and friends. She was always ready to cook a meal and celebrate a holiday.

Marie and Hardie’s love and dedication to one another has been a beautiful example of what marriage should be. Marie began her successful career in retail after their children were older. She worked for and later managed “Jeans N Things” where she and Lynne became best friends and business partners.

She later managed “The Gift Shop” in Slidell eventually working 22 years in retail. Marie was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church since 1969, where she was a member of OLL Altar Society. She loved flowers and was a member of the Westchester Garden Club.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all who provided care including physicians and Canon Hospice of Slidell, La for their amazing support and care. To her home caregivers Sandy Duhon, Sharon Carter, Patty Foil and Tammy Veazey – we thank you for your love, care, devotion and friendship. Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Thursday, January 10, 2019.

Visitation will begin at 10:00am, followed by Mass at 11:00am. Rev W. C. Paysse Celebrant.
