Obituary for Marlene Richey Marlene Richey, 85, of Pittsburg, passed away at 4:40 p.m., Sunday, October 7, 2018 in Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana. Marlene was born March 11, 1933 in Pittsburg to William Arthur and Lue Elva (Blevens) Richey. Marlene attended kindergarten at the old village hall and jail in Pittsburg.
She graduated from the eighth grade at the Pittsburg Grade School in 1947. She was a 1951 graduate of Marion High School. She was a member of the Pittsburg Methodist Church, where she had been treasurer and Sunday school teacher.
She was an avid reader and researcher of Williamson County history. She wrote several books on local happenings. Marlene worked all her adult life.
She began working at Cline-Vick Drug Store, Kroeger’s , Big Star Grocery, Kraft Foods, SIU Food Service, Ramada inn, U.S. Department of Commerce and she retired from selling real estate in 1996. Marlene is survived by a three nieces, Judith Kay (Jerry) Bell, Marsha Lou (Sonny) Wilson, Linda Ruth Davis; one nephew, Brian Keith (Debbie) Richey. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; long time companion, Jim Stroud; brothers and their spouses, Frank (Carol) Richey, Fred (Ruth) Richey, Ralph (Elizabeth) Richey, Albert (Juanita) Ritchey; infant brother, Burn Richey; three nephews, Alan Dale Richey, Sam Davis and William Thomas Richey. Private family services will be held at later date. Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City is entrusted with the arrangements.
