OBITUARY Marlies Mies Gilchrist August 25, 1929 – July 27, 2018 Marlies Mies Gilchrist passed away peacefully on Friday, July 27, 2018 at the age of 88. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she had touched in some way throughout her life. She was the cherished wife of the late Lawrence Gilchrist.

Loving mother of Susan G. Moss (Jeffrey), Donna G. Schofield and the late Elaine G. Pritchard and Monica G. Magee. Daughter of the late Martin Mies and Martha Pech Mies. Sister of the late Guenter Mies and Waltraud Mies.

Proud grandmother of Angela Harlan (Harley), Amanda Olinde (Joey), Jessica Moss and Chris Schofield. Great-grandmother of Connelly Dubuisson, Cameron Brown, Donovan Brown, Abigael Brown, Avery Olinde, Zoe Olinde, Taylor Olinde and Isabelle Olinde. She is fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Marlies was born in Schlesier, Germany and was a resident of Chalmette, LA for 56 years before settling in Slidell, LA following Hurricane Katrina. Marlies enjoyed a long career in service as Chief Deputy for the Registrar of Voters and was a longtime member of the Council on Aging in Slidell. She found pleasure in the details of everyday life, her trips to the casino, playing bridge with her friends and caring deeply for others.

She will always be remembered for her dedication to her family, her caring and loving spirit, her laughter, and spoiling the grandchildren. She was well loved and will be deeply missed by us all. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering to be held at ST.

BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, August 3rd from 9:00AM – 11:00AM, followed by a Memorial Mass in her memory beginning at 11:00AM. She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
