OBITUARY Shirley W Gebbia November 1, 1927 – September 28, 2018 Shirley Weidert Gebbia, 90, passed away on September 28, 2018 after a valiant battle with a long-term illness. Her devotion to her family and a firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace. She was born November 1, 1927 in New Orleans, Louisiana, the last of nine children.

She was a long time resident of Chalmette, Louisiana and moved to Laplace, Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina. Shirley enjoyed her trips to the casinos along with working crossword puzzles, saying her prayers, and giving handmade necklaces to anyone she met. It was her devotion to the “spoiling” of her beloved dogs that made all take notice.

A friend once said, “After I die, I want to come back as Shirley’s dog”. She is reunited with her husband of 60 years, Joe, and first-born son, Wayne. She leaves to cherish her loving memory her son Brian (Kathie) and her daughter Karen; 6 grandchildren Sherry (Fred) DeFrancesch, Gina (Sal) Hontiveros, Darrin (Suzanne) Hirsch, Mike (Ashley) Gebbia, Mark (Kelli) Gebbia, and Jenny Gebbia (Adam Ducoing), and 8 great grandchildren Zachery and Renee Hirsch, Cade and Amelia Hontiveros, Mason and Anna Turnipseed, and Samantha and Ben DeFrancesch.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. VIRTUE STREET, in Chalmette on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A funeral service will be held in her honor at 1:00 PM.

She will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you would follow Shirley’s lead and do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for someone in her name.
