Martha J. Ray was born in Cotton Plant, Arkansas on April 12, 1962 to Virginia Stalling and Rudolph Ramey. Martha played many roles in so many people lives that she came in contact with. She was a member of Greater Powerhouse Church of God in Christ for many years.

Martha held many jobs, but one most memorable is when she made the front page of the Michigan City News-Dispatch paper for being the first African American female to be hired at the Sanitation Waste Department. Martha married Steven Ray Sr. in 1988 and remained married for 16 years they later decided to part ways. Martha later met Audrey Butler, whom she became engaged to until her passing.

Martha departed this life on November 12, 2018 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Stalling and Leon Stalling; one sister, Fannie Hicks and her grandparents, Lucy Fleming and Sam Stalling. She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother, Virginia Thornton; eight children, April Stalling, South Bend, Indiana, Michael (Naomi) Stalling, Michigan City, Indiana, Natesha Stalling and Nikki Moisan both of South Bend, Indiana, Steven Ray Jr. and Marcus Ray both of Michigan City, Indiana, Tasha Ray and Sander Ray both of South Bend, Indiana; seven sisters, Bessie Mae and Sharon Ramey-Washington both of Detroit, Michigan, Lucy Worsham, Michigan City, Indiana, Tina Thornton, South Bend, Indiana, Erica Ramey, Cotton Plant, Arkansas, Veronica(Kay) Richardson, Little Rock, Arkansas and Barbara Ann Stalling, South Bend, Indiana; two brothers, Rudolph Ramey, Cotton Plant, Arkansas and Sander Stalling, Michigan City, Indiana; twenty-two grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two special nieces, Mattie Stalling, South Bend, Indiana and Tammy Stalling, Tennessee and a host of aunts, uncles nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marth memory will last forever through her family and will never be forgotten.
