Martha Ransom Thomas, 79, of Beaufort, passed away Monday, October 29, 2018, at home. Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2018, at North River United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Tom Supplee.

Interment will follow at North River United Methodist Church Cemetery. Martha was born in High Point, NC and was the daughter of the late Ray and Naomi Ransom. She attended Kings Business College in Raleigh and worked for HM Eure CPA, in Morehead City, for 4 years.

Then started her long career, of 31 years, at Carteret Community Action and worked her way up to be the Finance Officer and Special Assistant for Executive Director, Leon Mann. After that she served as the Deputy Clerk of the Court for 6 years, the Salvation Army for 5 years, and Rose’s Varity Store for 10 years. Martha’s enjoyment was creating ladders of opportunities and as a public servant, she spent more than 50 years of dedicated service to our community.

Martha was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She is survived by her son, Harold Brantley Thomas and wife, Karen, of Newport; step-children, June Kaye Thomas and husband, Glenn McFadden, of Summerland Key, FL, George Murray Thomas, III and wife, Janet, of Beaufort, Charles Edward Thomas and wife, Debi, of Beaufort; sisters, Dorothy Ransom Brown and husband, Billie, of Moody, TX, Jeanette Ransom Holland and husband, Michael Noe, of Beaufort; brother, Robert Ransom and wife, Linda Kay, of Yadkinville, NC; sister-in-law, Patricia Thomas Arthur of Beaufort; and grandchildren, Amanda Thomas Grow and husband, Michael Glen Grow, of Beaufort, Joshua Ryan Thomas and significant other, Alyssa Michelle Bosse, of Demopolis, AL and Stacie Lynn Thomas of Havelock. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Murray Thomas, Jr., son, George M. Thomas; parents, Ray and Naomi Ransom; and brother, Raymond Ransom.

Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2018, at North River United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank Community Home Care and Hospice for doing so much for our family during this difficult time. Your support and guidance were pivotal each step of our journey.
