Obituary for Marty Visser Marten “Marty” Visser, 57, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at his home in Oskaloosa. He was born, Wednesday, December 7, 1960, in Oskaloosa, the son of Marten and Velda Thompson Visser. Marty worked at M. Shrago & Son Salvage Yard in Oskaloosa for his whole working life.

Marty was married to Laura McPeters and they later divorced. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, coin collecting, playing with his granddaughter Charley and watching TV. He is survived by two daughters: Anna McPeters of Oskaloosa and Cathy McPeters of Russell; two sons: Shane Followill of Pella and D.J. McPeters of Oskaloosa; numerous grandchildren; a sister: Pam Visser of Oskaloosa; and two brothers: Kenny Visser and Mark Visser both of Oskaloosa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister: Vickie Hayes. As was his wish, Marty’s body has been cremated and no visitation is planned at this time. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at 2 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Dwayne Poe officiating.
