Mary’s Obituary Mary Agnes Chwalek, 95, of Oswego passed away surrounded by her family, on May 10th, 2019 at the Oswego Hospital. Born in Oswego, she was the daughter of the late John and Cathleen (Herman) Spath. She later met and married the late Honorable John P. Chwalek.

Together they raised their young family and enjoyed 59 years of marriage. In her younger years, she worked as an operator for NY Telephone, and she loved to knit and sew. She was an active member of St. Stephens Church and also a member of the Rosary Society.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband and her long, daily walks through Oswego. More than anything, she loved her children and grandchildren and cherished her time with them. Mary is survived by her two daughters, Mary Kay (James) Pagano, of Oswego NY and Ann (Andrew) Chwalek of Baldwinsville NY; three sons, Paul Chwalek of Oswego NY, Thomas (Judy) Chwalek, of Oswego NY and James (Sujatha) Chwalek, of Pittsford NY; twelve grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Francis, John, James, and Joseph Spath, and her sisters, Catherine Plata and Theresa Walters. The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff of ICU department at Oswego Hospital. In lieu of flowers, to remember Mary in a special way, please make donations in her name to, Oswego Health Foundation.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday May 15th, 2019 at 10am at St. Stephen’s Church. Nelson Funeral Home has care of the arrangements.
