Obituary for Mary Payne (McGill) Mary Alice McGill Payne of Jackson, LA passed away July 20, 2018 after a lengthy illness. Mary Alice was born in Centreville, MS January 2, 1936. She graduated as a registered nurse from Mather’s School of Nursing in New Orleans, LA.
After 30 years of service, she retired from East Louisiana State Hospital/Feliciana Forensic Facility. Mary Alice loved serving others through her work as a nurse and volunteering in her church where she taught 4th Grade Sunday School and played the piano. She was an active member of various healthcare organizations and enjoyed participating in the Jackson Assembly, Wednesday Club, and Eastern Star- St. Alban’s #80.
She is survived by: her children- Pattye Payne Hicks (Greg), Jeanna Payne Clark (Brad), and Donald Paul Payne (Paula); grandchildren- Leah Hicks Arnold (Christian), Brandon Clark, Andy Clark, Maggie Clark, Seth Payne (KateLynn), Zachary Payne, and Mikaela Payne; great grandchildren- Jude Hicks and Eliza Arnold; brothers- Jimmy McGill and Robert McGill, Jr. (Melanie); and a host of nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents- Robert Malcolm McGill Sr. and Alice Brannon McGill, and her wonderful husband of 40 years, Donald Ray Payne. Visitation will be Saturday, July 21, 2018 from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc., in Zachary, LA with an Eastern Star Service at 5:00 pm.
Visitation will continue on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Jackson, LA from 1:00 pm until the funeral service at 2:00 pm. Graveside service will follow at Jackson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to First Baptist Church of Jackson, LA.
