Mary Ann Williams of Kansas City, Missouri September 21, 1964 – February 13, 2019 On Wednesday, February 13, 2019, God called for Sister Mary Ann Williams to come home. She was born on September 21, 1964, to Luther McDaniel and Edwinnia (Williams) McDaniel in Kansas City, KS. Mary Ann was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri Public School System.
She is a 1982, graduate of Van Horn High School. In 2013, she received a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Counseling from Faith Bible College in Independence, MO. In addition, Mary Ann attended Penn Valley Community College in MO and graduated from secretarial school in Florida.
Mary Ann was also well trained in medical billing and worked fifteen years at KU Medical Center in this profession. Mary Ann accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Reverend Oscar D. Carson at Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church. She moved to Tucson, AZ in 1983, to visit her brother and his family.
She married the same year and lived in the states of AZ and FL. Wherever she lived, she united with a Bible believing church and was always an active member of her congregation. She often sung in the choir and participated in many other church activities.
When she returned to Kansas City, MO in 2002, she reunited with Metropolitan in 2003. Under the leadership of Reverend Michael L. Murray, she was licensed as an Exhorter on June 4, 2010, and then as a Local Preacher on June 3, 2011. At Metropolitan, she faithfully assisted the youth usher board by serving with them every 4th Sunday.
She served as the announcement clerk, taught Children’s Church occasionally and in the past, helped with the youth missionary society (Y Society). Mary Ann is a powerful prayer warrior and an anointed woman of God. She had a deep relationship with Christ and was devoted to her daily “quiet time” where she spoke to the Lord and the Lord spoke to her.
Our lives were blessed by Mary Ann’s kindness, her humorous personality and most of all her boldness when it came to the things of God. She always gave thoughtful gifts that spoke to her generosity and knack for knowing what people needed. Often, family and friends made summer trips to FL and stayed in her home with her family.
She opened her home to those in need many times in her life. On several occasions, family members lived with her for extended periods of time. Almost daily, she would visit her mother and father to help them with whatever they needed, from cooking and cleaning, to taking them to their doctor appointments, etc.
She always listened to people and never left anyone out. She loved to have fun and could make people laugh in any situation. She had a passion for Habitat for Humanity where she volunteered and supported daughter, Matrika.
Mary Ann had a profound faith in God. She trusted that God would provide for her and care for her, so she often put others needs before her own. God always gave her the time and ability to care for others.
She was a woman of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ’s love. Mary Ann found great joy in being a mother and grandmother. Her spirit is carried on by her two daughters and her two grandchildren who affectionately called her “MiMi” and she lovingly called them “Fatty cat (Zariah)” and “Doodle bug (Jayceon)”.
She leaves to cherish her memory: 2 daughters, Matrika Hornsby and Kahlika Hornsby; grandchildren, Zariah Smith and Jayceon Miller; her father and mother, Luther and Edwinnia Williams McDaniel; siblings, Rev. Lelar Williams, Calvin L. Williams, Sr., Gwendolyn (John) Davis, Gordon Allensworth and Carleton (Sandra) McDaniel; stepbrother, Gary Shelly; former spouse, Kenneth Hornsby; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, extended family, friends and many who were family through love and affection. We are comforted knowing that Mary Ann loved and was loved by many family members and friends.
She wants us to celebrate her life and not to mourn her in death. She wants everyone to love God first and “Live Your Life! ” The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for and loved Mary Ann.
We know that she is happy to be with our Heavenly Father and she wants us to be comforted knowing that we will see her again! Memorial service for Ms. Williams will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 23, 2019, at Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church.
