Mary Ellen Basile , October 14, 1951 — May 05, 2018

Mary Ellen Basile, 66, of Mountainside, N.J. passed away at home early Saturday morning, May 5, 2018 with her family by her side. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a viewing at Higgins and Bonner Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Avenue, Westfield, N.J. on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. and to a funeral mass on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 300 Central Ave. , Mountainside, N.J. at 11:00 a.m. Mary Ellen was born and raised in Elizabeth, N.J.

She and her husband, Richard Basile, made Mountainside their home for their two daughters, Marissa Basile LaCasse and Natalie Basile, and later, son-in-law, Casey LaCasse, and grandson, Liam LaCasse. She was the administrative assistant to the Superintendent of Schools in Springfield, N.J. for 17 years. She started her career working similar positions in various schools systems before dedicating herself to Springfield in 2001.

Mary Ellen’s pride and joy were her family, and she was devoted to making memories and continuing family traditions year after year. She enjoyed summer vacations in Long Beach Island, cooking, and hosting family parties, especially Christmas Eve. More recently, Mary Ellen enjoyed nothing more than filling all of her spare time with her new grandson Liam.

Mary Ellen was predeceased by her father, Vincent Guiliano, and sister, Donna. She was the cherished daughter of Janet, dear sister of Vincent and his wife, Marie, Guy, Cheryl and her husband, Joel, Thomas and his wife, Myrna, and Jackie and her husband, Dennis, and loving aunt of many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
