Obituary for Mary Ellen Hanna ORRVILLE— Mary Ellen Hanna, age 90, of Orrville, went home to be with the Lord on July 3, 2018, at Orrville Pointe, surrounded by her family. She was born on August 17, 1927, in Orrville, the daughter of Thomas and Elsie (Matter) Thompson. She was baptized in the Christ Reformed Church by Rev.

Albert Sherry and confirmed into Christ Reformed, now Christ United Church of Christ, by Rev. John Myers. She was united in marriage to Robert Lewis Hanna on February 25, 1950, by Rev.

Manfred Stoerker at Christ Evangelical & Reformed Church, now Christ United Church of Christ. She graduated from Orrville High School in 1945, where she was active in the band and orchestra. She also attended Wooster Business School.

She was a former member of the choir and a Sunday school teacher at Christ United Church of Christ. Mary Ellen was a former den mother in scouting, and also served as past president & secretary of American Legion Post 282; past president and secretary of the Wayne County Counsel; past secretary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3446; and past treasurer of the Orrville Jelly City Seniors. She had formerly worked at Bowman’s Grocery as a cashier, Hagan Co. (Westinghouse) in perpetual inventory, and as a receptionist for Dr. Carozza.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and made Afghans for the Veterans Hospital in Brecksville and for friends. Mary Ellen served sandwiches and refreshments to the WWII service men as they traveled through Orrville by train. She enjoyed watching her grandsons playing sports and watching ball games at Orr Park.

The family would like to thank Dennis Steiner (neighbor) for all his years of helping around her home. She is survived by sons, Gerald Hanna of West Lebanon, and Steven Hanna of Wooster; grandsons, Neil Hanna of Columbus, and Nicholas Hanna of Indianapolis; sister, Emogene Erwin of Upperville, VA; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Thompson of Orrville. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert L. Hanna, and brother, John E. Thompson.

Services will be held at Christ United Church of Christ in Orrville on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Dana Keirstead officiating. Burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery near Rittman at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. prior to the funeral. Auble Funeral Home in Orrville is assisting the family with arrangements. Online registry and expressions of condolence may be made at the funeral home web site at www.
