Nobles Funeral Home and Crematory announces the funeral services for Mary Jean Milton Gardner, age 89, who passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at her residence under the care of Comfort Care Hospice. She was born September 5, 1929 in Douglas, Coffee County, Georgia and lived her younger years in Appling County. Mrs. Gardner graduated from Baxley High School in 1946 and continued her education at Brewton Parker College where she was voted the first Miss Brewton Parker College in 1947.

She married James Robert “Jim” Gardner on March 11, 1951 and was a member of Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church and the Naomi Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Reverend James Robert “Jim” Gardner; parents, A.V. and Mary Frances Johnson Milton and two brothers, Vance Milton and George Harold Milton. Survivors include her three children, Bob Gardner and wife Monica of Homestead, FL, Patti Bartles and husband Robert of Baxley and Joe Gardner and wife Pam of Surrency; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister, Betty Jo Dixon of Baxley and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 11, 2019 at 11 am at Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church with the Reverend Jim Snell and Reverend James Minick officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral services at the church.

Active Pallbearers will be Alton Moody, Terry Moody, Skip Milton, Rick Milton, Bo Moody and Chris Milton. Honorary pallbearers will be the Naomi Sunday School Class and the deacons and wives of Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church, Robert and Kim Martin, Jerry and Windy Vaughn, Reverend Darrel Quinn, Reverend Joe and Robyn McGee and Reverend Earl and Jean Wiggins.
