Obituary for Mary Jo Remmert Print Mary Jo (Burns) Remmert, 84, died Sunday, February 10, 2019 at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City, Kansas. She was born March 26, 1934 in Garden City, the daughter of Joseph H. & Ida E. (Immroth) Burns. Her mother died when Mary Jo was only 8 years old and her father died when she was 13.

Mary Jo was lovingly raised from age 11 by her mother’s sister and husband, her Aunt Mary & Uncle Tom Hewes in Ingalls. Mary Jo attended Ingalls schools and graduated from Ingalls High School in 1952. She then attended college at St. Mary of the Plains in Dodge City.

On June 6, 1955, she married Gordon Dennis “Bus” Batman. Mary Jo later married Robert O. “Bob” Remmert in Garden City on December 27, 1986. A homemaker for most of her life, she also worked many years as a secretary and bookkeeper for Keller Leopold Insurance Co. until her retirement in 2003.

As a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, Mary Jo dedicated much of her time and talent to the music ministry, a of great joy and fulfillment. She served as choir director for 17 years, cantor, lector, parish counsel, the Liturgy Commission, and Altar Society. She was also a member of the Newman Club and volunteered her time at the gift shop at St. Catherine Hospital.

Her hobbies include music, singing, reading, gardening, cooking, shopping, various arts, crafts and painting. Her greatest pride and joy was raising her sons and knowing they grew into successful, happy and faith-filled Christian gentlemen. Survivors include four Sons Stephen “Tony” Batman & wife Vicki of Dallas, Texas, Terry Batman of Holcomb, Kansas, Eric Batman & wife Lori of Kennewick, Washington, & Shannon Batman & wife Shelly of Richland, Washington; two step-daughters Carol Kitch of Collinsville, Oklahoma and Nancy Bennett & husband Jim of Freetown, Indiana; Cousins David & Betty Hews of Ingalls, Kansas; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren with two more to be born later this year.

Mary Jo is preceded in death by her husband Robert who died on April 10, 2005. She is also preceded in death by her parents; and three older brothers Richard Burns, Carrold Burns, & Robert Burns. A Vigil Service & Rosary will be held at 6;00 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019 at St. Domini Catholic Church in Garden City.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2019 also at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Rev. Warren Stecklein as Celebrant. A private family interment will take place at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.
