Mary Louise (Schultz) Barnekow, of Oshkosh, formerly of Princeton, WI, passed away into the arms of her Lord and Savior on July 13, 2018, at Lakeshore Manor in Oshkosh, WI. Mary was born on November 3, 1932, in Kaukauna, WI, a daughter of William and Mary (Jakl) Schultz. Mary’s father was a plumber and moved his business from Kaukauna to Princeton.
In 1950, Mary graduated from Princeton High School. She also met the love of her life in Princeton, Harvey Barnekow. They were married on March 24, 1955, and celebrated 61 years of marriage before Harvey’s passing on December 6, 2016.
Together with Harvey’s parents, they ran Barnekow’s Supper Club until 1969. Harvey and Mary then owned and operated Barnekow’s Motel until 2002, when they sold the business. Upon retiring, they moved to Oshkosh.
Mary loved watching Badger football and basketball as well as the Packers and the Bucks. She enjoyed bowling and golfing, where she even made a hole in one on a vacation in Florida. Together with her husband, Harvey, Mary had also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
She was a crafter and excellent cook. Mary is survived by her daughter, Jaye (Mark) Roeming; two very special grandsons, Barret (Mara) Roeming and their daughter, Eleanor, Tyler Roeming and his children, Caden, Alexis and Benson; sister, Margaret Tetzlaff; brother, William Schultz; sister-in-law, Lorraine Schultz; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends who were like family to Mary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; parents, William and Mary Schultz; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Harvey and Pearl Barnekow; brothers, Richard and Glenn Schultz; brother-in-law, Victor Tetzlaff; sister-in-law, Roxanne Schultz; nephews, Andrew Tetzlaff and Peter Tetzlaff.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018, at Grace Lutheran Church, 913 Nebraska St., in Oshkosh with visitation from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. A funeral service for Mary will follow the visitation at 5:30 p.m. at the church with Pastor Chadwick Graham officiating. Following the service, a light meal will be served at Grace Lutheran Church. Burial will be held at a later date at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield, WI.
