Mary Lucille Lovitt passed away late Friday afternoon on October 5, 2018. She was in her home surrounded by her children in the village of Crab Orchard, Nebraska where she lived for ninety-seven years. She was born August 28, 1921 to Lee and Christina (Craney) Truscott on a farm northeast of Crab Orchard, Nebraska.

Mary Lucille was a pillar in the community. She graduated from Sterling High School in 1939. She attended the teaching program at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in the 1930’s and moved home to teach in a country school house.

She married Scott Lovitt on Dec. 26, 1944, and helped support the family farm. In 1965 she began working as a nurse at the Johnson County Hospital, retiring 28 years later.

In addition to her career, Mary Lucille was active in the community. She was a proud member and officer of the Women’s American Legion Auxiliary. She also served as Village Clerk of Crab Orchard until June 30, 2018.

As a devout Catholic, she attended St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Crab Orchard and is currently a member of St. Andrew’s Parish in Tecumseh. She was involved with various church functions. Mary Lucille was the recipient of numerous professional and community awards.

Above all, Mary Lucille was a loving mother, aunt, friend, and community member. She was quick to smile and laugh. She was endlessly generous and loving to all.

Few people make it to ninety-seven-years-old and leave behind a world where they will be actively missed by dozens of people each day. She was the salt of the earth. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Cristina and Lee Truscott, her siblings Hubert and Matilda Truscott, Harold and Hilda Truscott, Eva and Truman McPherrin, James and Pat Truscott, Bernice and Clifford Pond, L.H. and Edith Lovitt, Doris and Parker Carmichael, Milton and Pauline Lovitt, sister-in-law, Marguerite Searcey, and her husband Scott Lovitt who passed away June 24, 1992.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses: E. Kay and Eldon Ebeler, Jay R. and Ingrid Lovitt, Lou Ann and Kevin Linehan, and Leon and Wendy Lovitt, 11 grandchildren and their spouses: Melissa (Joe) Beeber, Angela (Shawn) Latcham, Rebecca (Nathan) Krofta, Andrea (Chris) Ruiz,Christopher (Amber) Lovitt, Sara Lovitt, Daniel Lovitt, Patrick (Alexis) Linehan, Katie Linehan, Meghan Linehan and Shannon (Michael) Seim, as well as fourteen great-grand-children, Drayton, Maryn, Alaena, Sawyer, Kye, Isabella, Kellen, Annie, Mitch, Jack, Lucas, Zeke, Zoila and Hayden. She is also preceded in death and is survived by numerous extended family members and dear friends. Mass of Christian Burial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Father Craig Clinch officiating.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 6-7 p.m., Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may go the St. Andrew Catholic Church or Johnson County Historical Society. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. in the Vesta Cemetery, rural Tecumseh, Nebraska.
